Year of the Ox
Going home to Cleveland tomorrow to see my parents and to celebrate the Chinese Lunar New Year. Yay! Though Cleveland is quite boring ( sorry but its true!) and there isn't much to do except go to the mall or Walmart....go to eat and drive from one parking lot to another. No wonder midwesterners are fattys! ooooh I'm sounding really mean huh??!! Not on purpose! I guess living in NY has given me the appreciation for walking and the NEED to walk. I love strolling around in the city ( think the furtherest I ever walked was from 40th and Broadway to 92nd and Lex. or it could be from 34th to soho) You seem to lose track of time and distance when you walk in NY. One of the only cities that make you feel like you are in the middle of something exciting when making a trip to the grocery store. I constantly find myself having a love-hate relationship with this city. Perhaps in the winter I become more bitter...
Anyway I'm looking forward to see my parents and go to dim sum and relax for a few days :) I know I'm gona get bored but with all the stress of work and everything else in the world its nice to get away from the city....and hang out at a Walmart ;)

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
2009 is officially here and there will be lots in store for Castaway! A new collection will debut the end of Jan. A new line of fun, glamour girl inspired "party" accessories will also be in the works ;) In a time when Gossip Girls are parading around the City with their pretty dresses and 5" Christian Louboutins, we cannot expect anything less than perfection with our accessories because let's face it ladies, the accessories make the outfit!!! Its TRUE! I know we've all heard that before but how many of us actually pay attention to the STYLE rather than the LABEL. I personally do not care for designer labels...i would be just as happy in a Philip Lim cardigan as I would be in a Club Monaco or
J Crew one. OK ok....maybe slightly MORE happy in a Philip Lim. But nonetheless, I would still be able to rock out in a non designer label with the right cuff or necklace. Not to mention the right HANDBAG or SHOES!! 2009 will definitely be a time for rebuilding. As we go thru this transition it is important to remember individual style and making a statement..all while having fun! While we tend to be inspired by what we see on young starlets, don't forget to throw in your own unique element of style. Ingenues like Kate Moss, Mary Kate, Lou Dillon and Chloe Sevigny are considered fashion darlings because they are unafraid to take risk and make a statement rather than following a statement. Mix and matching what's new with what's old and unlabeled is an easy way to to be chic. Another surefire way to be chic is to have one thing about you that stands out and everyone thinking "where did she get that!!??". For me its usually a piece of jewelry or a vintage dress. Rules to remember, whatever it is, it has to FIT. Anything overwhelming and sloppy is NOT chic. Anything too tight or revealing is NOT sexy, its trashy. Anything that doesn't feel quite right, usually isn't. Comfort and confidence is another important element of style. Don't be fooled into incredibly uncomfortable trends....they never last.
Kudos to the Kates who seem to always get it right!
