I went to The Met Musuem this weekend to see the Alexander McQueen exhibit..my second time actually! You would think seeing it once already, the second time would be less magical and breath taking...wrong! This time was even more amazing and mesmerizing! I made sure to examine and take in every detail. The man was a true genius in every way. The "Romantic Mind" was a dark and twisted beauty. A display of contradiction. Beauty and darkness was emphasized throughout the exhibit. His fine craftsmanship and love of the human form is apparent in many of his corset inspired designs. The corset was first introduced in the early 1300's and worn by the wealthy in France. Made of uncomfortable and rigid materials such as iron, wood and whale bone,it was seen as a symbol of decadent aristocracy.

What to do when...

Cheap Monday

Who's say you can't look chic and sexy when the weather is misbehaving? It's all about having the right accessories. While it may seem impossible to make a clunky rubber boot look chic I have found a few that stand out on their own as fashion statements. Keep in mind when choosing a "chic" rainboot, please please stay away from big colorful flowers, puppies, ducks, rainbows, leopard, etc. Simple is better in this case. Solid color, even better. Hunter boots are a classic and a must have because when you live in NYC nothing beats a great pair of rain boots and snow boots! They look great AND keep your feet dry. Mission accomplished! Ombre Waves

Not sure how ombre haircolor became such a trend. I must have been way ahead of the game when I was growing out my color a few years back...along with everyone else apparently! I think this trend is an extension of our carefree attitude with fashion. Everything has become so relaxed and so worn in. The key words in my wardrobe are vintage, comfortable, oversized, soft, disheveled but in a very calculated way. The same goes for my hair. Love me a messy tousled wave! I am curious to try this ombre look again. I've seen many pictures with this color and it seems that only slightly messy wavy hair looks good with this process. Stick straight hair is just too extreme and doesn't look natural with the two toned color.

Here is a tip for luscious waves with no curling iron or rollers required! Way too damaging.

1.divide slightly damp hair into 2 sections (as if you are making a braid on each side) and twist it into a bun and secure with a small hairclaw or rubber band. blast for a few seconds with your blowdryer on the hot setting.
2.Leave on while your doing your make-up and getting dressed.
3.As your about to head out the door, blast the blowdryer again but this time on the cool setting.
4.Take out the buns and viola! Shake out the waves and rub in some shine serum but careful not to run your fingers thru the hair too much or you'll take out the wave. I like to rub the ends and then scrunch the rest of the hair. Frederic Fekkai glossing cream is AMAZING!!! Gives incredible moisture and shine. Has olive oil in it....SO good for your hair. Just a drop does the job.


Will keep you posted if I decide to give the Ombre haircolor a shot....

So I finally saw the Bill Cunningham doc. Very interesting and a bit sad.... here is a man who's only love in life was clothes and photographing moments in fashion. He's such a funny character with a pure sense of humor and wit. He is not influenced by anything or anyone around. He only knows what he sees with his own eyes. A simple man with such a vast knowledge and love for fashion. I highly recommend seeing this film to bring you back down to earth and appreciate the love of fashion because after all, it is the clothes telling a story, not the person.

Today marks the end of an era. Elizabeth Taylor was a true fashion icon and movie star. One of the LAST movie stars of our time. Her beauty and charm was undeniable. Her heart and love for others,unmeasurable. I remember watching her in "Cat on a hot tin roof" One of my favorite old hollywood films where she exudes such a lingering sex appeal and strength. Maggie the cat,there will never be another one like her...
